Stalking is a crime that is difficult to clarify with everyday acts such as expression of affection or courtship. Therefore, in order to effectively regulate, research on the public's perception of stalking is important. In a society with attitudes and beliefs that belittle and tolerate stalking behavior, it is difficult for the general public to properly recognize the seriousness of the problem. As a result of examining how much ordinary people perceive stalking-related behavior as a crime, it was found that the negative perception of all stalking behavior was much higher than that of positive perception. However, despite the other party's refusal, the positive perception of contact or gift giving was somewhat high. In particular, compared to other acts, there was a high positive perception in that for love, the courage to continue courting even if rejected was necessary. This means that there is still an attitude in our society to justify stalking behavior through romantic relationships or active courtship. And there was a significant difference in perception by gender in all stalking behaviors. It was found that men had lower criminality awareness of behavior than women. This suggests that men tend to regard stalking as a minor event that occurs in someone's courtship process and in close relationships rather than a serious criminal case compared to women. Based on these research results, it is necessary to prepare policies or education that reflect the perceptions and attitudes of the general public at various levels. This effort will eventually contribute to more effective stalking prevention.
