Unlike other types of violent crimes, it is hard to understand the offenders of dating violence and their victims with common sense. In other words, the offenders are shameful in terms that they take advantage of their relationship in committing the violence in the name of love, whereas the victims lock themselves up in the violent relationship with denial of their victimization. It is obvious that the act of dating violence itself is a crime, but their victims ignores the act of dating violence with their perspective of love. The study focused on the unstable psychological characteristics of the victimized females in diagnosing dating violence, which is getting worse recently. In particular, this study explored the optimistic biases or altruistic delusions of the victims, which makes them not only unable to end their relationship but also exposed to the possibility of further more serious victimization. This study used the data of violence against the women which was collected by the Korean Institute of Criminology as a secondary source. Examining the hypothesis, it was partially supported that factors of unable adult attachment and low level of self-esteem increased the victimization of dating violence, and make the victims to remain in their relationship in case of being victimized in dating violence. Thus, it is far more important for victims how they perceive their damage than to what extent they was victimized in order to respond and prevent the dating violence actively. For this reason, this study suggested the necessity of more deepened approach to the internal psychological characteristics of the victims of dating violence and the process of changes in their mind.
